Our Technology-Enhanced Project-Based Language Learning Project:

Women in Stem

The purpose of this project is to introduce two groups of students from different countries to each other as well as to the world of telecollaboration. Throughout the 5 week timeframe, both groups will work asynchronously and synchronously to learn about famous and local women in STEM fields, as well as other useful skills such as how to conduct an interview, how to find credible sources on the internet, how to write a biography, and how to design a website. During this learning process each group will be responsible for their respective women and will use these collaborative meetings as a means of exchanging information with each other.

Both the Catalan and Swiss students will be using their shared language, English, for these exchanges. Although there will be a difference in ages between both groups (the Catalan students will be around 10 years old while the Swiss students will be about 12), these meetings will be used not only to facilitate language learning between both groups, but also their skills with other forms of media. In learning about famous and local women in STEM, the students will have knowledge that they can then apply to other classes as well, such as science or writing/literature-based courses.

By the end of the project, the classes will have collaborated on a combined website about women in STEM, with each smaller collaborative group having contributed to a webpage within the site. The website will eventually be presented to other students at their school, and can be used as a reference for other students around the world who are conducting research on these women in the future.
